Digital Scene KC: Game Development Happy Hour at FlipSwitch VR

Thursday, September 12, 2024 — KC Digital Drive partnered with KC Imagine to host the DIGITAL SCENE KC: Game Development event. This event provided a unique opportunity for digital media professionals to connect and network with guest experts from host Flipswitch VR over drinks and a light meal.

Held at FlipSwitch VR in the colorful and fully experiential arcade space and game development studio, the event opened with Ron Green, Executive Director of KC Imagine, highlighting how the conversations fostered at this event might lead to projects, ideas, or even cultural events in the future. Ron expressed gratitude for the host and the sponsors for their role in the event and for facilitating a strong digital media ecosystem in Kansas City.

Anthony Carey, CEO of FlipSwitch VR, highlighted the story of FlipSwitch VR and his mission to push Kansas City forward into a leader within the AR/VR space. FlipSwitch VR, a free-roam, multiplayer, virtual reality arcade located in the Crossroads district of Kansas City, offers a truly immersive game experience. With state-of-the-art wireless technology and motion tracking, they aim to take you inside the game where your body is the controller and your mind believes it’s real.

After opening remarks, game development experts around the room shared their personal expertise about their work in VR game development with attendees. Beyond hearing about the experts’ experience, attendees also had the opportunity to experience the games created by the experts –  becoming fully immersed in an alternate reality. Whether fighting zombies or in a space-themed escape room rescuing a crew lost in space, the games weren’t the only excitement. Around the room, people networked and shared ideas, and the high energy and inspiration in the room were palpable, leaving everyone motivated and enthusiastic.

The next event, DIGITAL SCENE KC: STEAM Education, will be held on Thursday, November 19, from 5-6:30 p.m. at Operation Breakthrough. Registration for this event can be found here.
