KC Digital Drive recently hosted a workshop on developing an organizational AI policy for members of the Community Technology Action Network (CTAN), following up on our three previous workshops on generative AI basics.
This workshop was built around a template organizational AI policy for nonprofits which can be accessed here. The template policy provides suggested language that organizations can use to establish expectations for how employees use generative AI in the workplace. It also includes commentary on each section of the policy to explain the context for different provisions and how organizations may wish to modify the suggested language to suit their unique needs.
The policy addresses six different aspects of AI use:
- Approved tools and use-cases
- Privacy and data protection
- Copyright protections
- Oversight and accountability
- Transparency
- Fairness and bias
We encourage all our partners to review this template and consider how to institute an organizational policy to ensure the responsible use of generative AI tools.
