The sharing economy has grown and spread throughout a variety of sectors. In the world of transportation, services like Uber and Lyft have become popular and come to the forefront when one thinks about the impacts of the sharing economy on transportation networks. A quickly growing market of small vehicles (e.g. bikeshare systems, electric scooters, electric bikes) may soon unseat the Ubers and Lyfts in popularity when it comes to short trips. With the ever increasing presence of docked bicycles and dockless electric scooters, like Bird and Lime, questions have begun to emerge around how these services may change the way we connect to our communities, and what are the effects of small vehicles on road and public infrastructure, transportation planning and the multi-modal integration. Join KC Digital Drive and KCATA as some of the key players in the small vehicles shared economy are on hand to discuss the role their service play and how they hope to become an integral part of the way we move around Kansas City. Guest speakers include:

  • Bird, Jeremy LaFaver, Government Affairs
  • Lime, Cade House, Operations Manager
  • BikeWalkKC, Eric Vaughan, Director of Bike Share and Business Services

###

Every month, we bring together a group of stakeholders in the area of Transportation and Mobility to hear about technology and innovation projects happening in the region–and occasionally related topics from outside the Greater Kansas City area. Our stakeholders include transit planners and agencies, city and state government officials, engineering firms and other corporate partners, startups working on transit and mobility projects, and other civic organizations. The meetings are open, though not widely broadcast. KC Digital Drive is partnering with the KC Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) to program and plan the meetings. They generally happen on the third Wednesday of the month, 8:30-10:00 am at Mid-America Regional Council (MARC).

We send out an email agenda and calendar invite to this stakeholder list, which we loosely call the Mobility Innovation Team. If you wish to be added to the email list, please send a note to adeacon@kcdigitaldrive.org.
