The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and Health System have been tremendous supporters of KC Digital Drive’s Health Innovation Team, and now are taking the time to share with us some of the background and insights of their efforts in telebehavioral health.
Dr. Eve-Lynn Nelson and Robert Stiles of KUMC will provide an overview of current behavioral telehealth projects in the KU School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics. These include a variety of projects focused on the delivery of mental health therapy, psychiatric care, and behavioral interventions to rural populations throughout the state of Kansas.
Dr. Nelson is Professor of Behavioral Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics at KUMC and Director, Department of Research and Scholarship, Institute of Community Engagement. She is a long-time leader in telehealth for KUMC and is currently Statewide Director for the Kansas Telebehavioral Health Network. She also is a Fellow of the American Telemedicine Association College of Fellows, as well as holding Principal Investigator roles with the Heartland Telehealth Resource Center and the Telehealth ROCKS program.
Robert Stiles recently became Program Manager for KUMC after serving as CEO of Central Ozarks Medical Center in Missouri. He also has been Director of Administration and Eastern Kansas Rural Health Network Director for the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, a Federally Qualified Health Center, and served a long tenure as Primary Care Director for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

###

Every month, we bring together a group of health care stakeholders to learn and share about technology and innovation projects happening in the region–and occasionally related topics from outside the Greater Kansas City area. Our stakeholders include hospitals and the health care system, city and state government officials, health IT firms and other corporate partners, startups working in health and wellness, and other civic organizations. The meetings are open, though not widely broadcast. They generally happen on the last Wednesday of the month, 8:30-10:00 am at Mid-America Regional Council (MARC).
We send out an email agenda and calendar invite to this stakeholder list, which we loosely call the Health Innovation Team. If you wish to be added to the email list, please send a note to jfitzpatrick@kcdigitaldrive.org.
